What’s the difference between mPI and inventory management solutions?

The scope of inventory management solutions can be extremely broad. Often times, these are large solutions involve modules for asset tracking, sales, check-in/check-out capabilities, physical inventory and more. mPI on the other hand is specifically designed for conducting a physical inventory. It is simple, easy-to-use and enables you to integrate your physical inventory results with virtually ANY third party software solution.

How does mPI integrate with my other third party software solutions?

As long as your software solutions support importing data in the form of a .csv file, then mPI inventory information can be integrated easily.

What is required to install mPI? Does it support Windows Vista or Windows 7?

On Windows XP/2000, mPI requires ActiveSync to be installed on your computer first. mPI works on Vista and Windows 8 which already have Windows Mobile Sync built-in. However, we still recommend you install the full version of WMDC (Windows Mobile Device Center) from Microsoft.

Can I use mPI if I already own a hardware device?

Of course. mPI is designed to work with any hardware device running Windows Mobile 6.0 or 6.5 (including Windows Embedded Handheld).

Is the mPI desktop installer compatible with Mac computers?

Not at the current time.

Does mPI support scanning 2D barcodes?

Yes, as long as the hardware device (mobile computer) can support scanning of 2D barcodes

Do you recommend any specific mobile computers?

mPI is designed to run on a wide range of mobile computers.  We have created a number of turn-key bundles (referred to as "Starter Kits") that provide you with different solutions based on a range of price points.

Technical Questions

I am unable to install mPI. What went wrong?

Verify the following:

  1. Either Windows ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center are installed on your computer.
  2. Your handheld computer is running on a compatible platform (Windows Mobile 6.0 or 6.5)
  3. The Windows Mobile Device Center "sees" your handheld computer

If so, please look at the installation guide for further instructions on how to install mPI.

I entered in the wrong quantity for an item, what should I do?

There are two options for solving this:

  1. If you are using a scan-and-enter-quantity inventory approach, you can re-scan the item and enter an adjustment for that item. This adjustment can be either a positive or negative number. For instance, if you accidentally entered a quantity of 5 when the actual quantity was 4, you can use an adjustment of -1.
  2. At the Scan Item Screen, click the History button and find the transaction where you entered the wrong quantity. You should then be able to click on the transaction and modify the quantity as needed.
